About Specialty Pharmacy

To receive your medication from Pharmacare Hawaii, your Doctor will need to send us a referral. Ask your Doctor about Pharmacare Hawaii at your next visit. If you’d like more information or have questions before speaking with your Doctor, you’re always welcome to call us directly at 808-836-0223.

What to Expect When Referred to Pharmacare Hawaii

Starting infusion therapy can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Here’s what you can expect when you’re referred to Pharmacare Hawaii:

One of our friendly Patient Care Assistants will give you a call to get started. We’ll confirm your basic information, make sure your insurance details are up to date, and talk through how soon you need your medication. If you have any upcoming travel, we’ll plan around it so your therapy stays on track.

We take care of the insurance paperwork for you. Our team will contact your insurance company and manage any required prior authorizations. Because insurance reviews can take time, we’ll keep things moving and update you along the way. We’ll also look for copay assistance programs to help lower your out-of-pocket costs whenever possible.

Your Pharmacist will review your lab results and medications to make sure your therapy is safe and appropriate for you. They’ll call to explain how to take your medication, what side effects to watch for, and what to do if you miss a dose. During this call, we’ll also schedule your delivery and collect your copay. If your medication is self-injectable and you’d like help, we can arrange for a nurse to teach you how to administer it.

You’re never on your own. You will always have access to a Nurse or Pharmacist whenever questions come up.

You can also message your care team anytime through the Citus Health app —where you can ask your Specialty Care Team a question, sign and submit forms electronically, watch training videos, and receive important updates.

After your first dose, we’ll call to check how you’re doing, review any side effects, and coordinate refills — at no extra cost.

Delivery & Pickup

We’ll coordinate free home delivery or pickup at a time that works best for you, so getting your medication is one less thing to worry about.

Place used needles, syringes, lancets, and other sharps in a strong, leakproof plastic container (such as an empty bleach or detergent bottle) with a secure lid that has a small opening. Clearly label the container “BIOHAZARD.” Do not bend, break, or recap needles—drop them directly into the container. Sharps are not recyclable, so keep the container separate from recycling. Before disposal, sterilize or chemically disinfect the sharps. When the container is full, fill it with a solution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, let it soak for 20 minutes, then pour out the solution. Seal the lid with heavyduty tape and place the container in the regular trash. Always keep sharps containers out of reach of children and pets. Soiled bandages, gloves, and disposable medical supplies should be placed separately in securely fastened plastic bags before throwing them away.

If you need to throw away left-over medication, you should call the pharmacy to determine the best method for disposal. Some medications have to be thrown away in different ways as required by State and Federal Laws and Guidelines
